Mr. Natthakit Khongthip, Director-General of the Rice Department, chaired the 2025 Rice Variety Certification Committee meeting. The meeting included Dr. Chitsanucha Buddhaboon, Deputy Director-General; Mr. Krisdin Kamtan, Deputy Director-General; representatives from the Department of Internal Trade, Department of Foreign Trade, the Thai Rice Exporters Association, Thai Rice Millers Association, Thai Rice Traders Association, the National Community Rice Centers Committee, Thai Rice Seed Trade Association, Farmers’ Associations, and other experts. The meeting was held at the Ruang Khao Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Rice Department Building.
The Director-General stated that one of the Rice Department’s main missions is research and development of new rice varieties that meet farmers’ needs in all aspects. The department plans to certify 4–5 new rice varieties each year. These new varieties aim to provide high yields per rai, resist diseases and pests, tolerate both drought and flooding, and suit specific planting areas in Thailand. They will offer farmers, consumers, and rice traders more diverse options.
