“Pichai” delivers good news this year: Thailand closes TRC 2025 deal, exports 500,000 tons of rice
The Minister of Commerce accelerates Thai rice exports, expanding the American-African-Middle Eastern markets, closing a deal to sell 500,000 tons of rice at TRC 2025
On May 27, 2025, Mr. Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, revealed after discussions with a group of major rice importers from the United States, including OTS McAllister, Inc., Sun Lee, and CKK Paradiso, as well as key global traders who traveled to attend the Thailand Rice Convention 2025 (TRC 2025) at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel on May 26, 2025, attended by Mr. Worawong Ramangkura, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Kunakorn Preechachanachai, Advisor to the Minister of Commerce, and Ms. Arada Fuangthong, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, that this meeting is an important opportunity for Thailand to reaffirm its potential as a leader in the quality and standards of Thai rice in the international trade arena.
“Thailand wants to be the center of global food security, or Food Storage, in which rice is the heart. One of the policies that I have given to the Department of Foreign Trade is to connect farmers, exporters, and major importers together to create targeted communication, leading to building trust and expanding the market sustainably,” said Mr. Pichai.
This discussion is part of the Business Matching activity under the TRC 2025 event, which is organized by the Department of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, as a forum for exchanging information, negotiating business, and pushing for opportunities to export Thai rice to the world market, with representatives from both the public and private sectors of Thailand and many other countries participating in large numbers.
The Minister of Commerce said that the negotiations emphasized the strengths of Thai rice in terms of quality, variety of species, and the ability to adapt product formats to meet the needs of the modern market, such as organic rice, local rice such as Riceberry, Hom Nil rice, and Sang Yod rice, as well as ready-to-eat processed rice, which is continuously in demand in the American and Middle Eastern markets.
“The good news is that Thailand has been able to expand its rice exports to the United States, Iraq, South Africa, and the Middle East. By 2025, Thailand will be able to export more than 500,000 tons of rice to these countries,” said Mr. Pichai.
This progress is in line with the government’s policy under the leadership of Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, which focuses on increasing income for Thai farmers, especially by promoting agricultural products with high potential in Thailand, such as Thai rice, to be able to compete sustainably in the world market. The government has a clear goal of creating income security for farmers through expanding export markets. We will continue to build cooperation with major rice traders around the world to ensure stable and fair purchase orders for Thai farmers.
